What was the vision behind your make-up look for Allude?
In spring I always feel that a new cycle in our lives begins. Through my work I want to share this feeling of freshness and celebrate the magic of new beginnings with people around the globe. Going all sexy and party did not feel right for the spring season; instead I was aiming for a simple and youthful look. The Allude cashmere collection itself inspired me to concentrate on the eyes and to focus the audience’s attention on them....
In the world of fashion this enchanting show took place ages ago. And yet, when watching the video, it almost feels like yesterday that Allude made its debut at the Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Berlin. The collection’s theme was “Feu Royal”, and it featured satin, chiffon – and softest cashmere, of course – dyed in a mix of caramel and earthy colours. Enjoy this blast from the past!
Bold colours and eerily blurry subjects are just one of the styles Chinese painter Yang Shaobin has mastered. At age 29 he moved to the so-called “artists’ village” of Yuanmingyuan near Beijing. Since his 1999 European debut at the Venice Biennale, Shaobin (51) ranks high among the so-called Cynical Realists from Asia. His diverse oeuvre has ranged from traditional ink painting to contemporary topics, such as the hard life of Chinese mineworkers.
Andrea Karg on the artist: “I first saw examples of Yang Shaobin’s work at Art Cologne some years ago. One of his paintings on display was hauntingly beautiful! It reminded me of works by Francis Bacon, only it was even gorier and more distorted. At the time I so wanted to have it, but one of my sons insisted: ‘If you buy this painting and hang it on a wall, I’ll move out.’ So we left this extraordinary piece of art in Cologne, but I still adore Shaobin’s dark, phantasmagoric...
Bold blue, vibrant orange, delicate nude, cool green, comfy camel ... The world of Allude is home to a sheer rainbow of colours, and each season creative director Andrea Karg succeeds in envisioning elegant, yet surprising looks from this abundant palette.
“Working on the design of our Resort and Spring/Summer collections is always a special treat for me. Why? Because I can finally work and play with colours! Cashmere is the best raw material for stunning shades and nuances. It’s magical. More exciting and luxurious than any other material – simply gorgeous. During the design process my team and I play with the most daring colour combinations and styling options right from the start. Take our current Allude Fashion Show Collection Fall/Winter 2015, for instance, where we used many rarely seen tones together. One dress almost drove us crazy. We all felt that something was missing. After hours of trying different colours and materials, we ended up dying a...
In the first of a series of interviews with Allude founder and creative director Andrea Karg, she speaks about the origin of her brand’s distinct name. Coming up with a memorable moniker for her fashion label in 1993 proved to be almost as difficult as naming a child. After all, both the people behind the label and customers should be able to identify with the name and feel a strong connection with it for years to come.
“When I first started thinking about the perfect name for my fashion brand, I knew only one thing: I would not name it after myself. Still, it should start with an ‘A’, like my first name, Andrea. That way, our label would also be listed right on top of every list, from fashion week schedules to a buyer’s watch list. I can’t remember how many dictionaries in how many languages I browsed during the process ... In the end I always came back to the old English verb ‘to allude’, which means ‘to insinuate...
On Wednesday September 11th Allude invited to discuss these major questions during a panel discussion with several fashion Pros: Sabine Spieler(Journalist, former Textil Wirtschaft), Stefanie Luxat (Founder of OHHH MHHH and podcast ENDLICH OM), Julia Zirpel (Founder of the wearness) and Andrea Karg (CEO and creative Head Allude)."
Over ice-cold drinks and in a relaxed atmosphere, the fashion crowd could cool down to room temperature in the Kronprinzenpalais, while at the same time admiring the designs of the German fashion scene. Naturally, Andrea Karg and the Allude team took part in the event and made good use of the wonderful weather with an open-air presentation on the terrace of the Palais (see past Allude presentations here: Spring/Summer 2017, Fall/Winter 2017/2018). The staging, which had an artistic feel to it, emphasized maritime influences, such as various striped patterns as well as the colours blue and white. Highlight: a knit sweater in the colours of the US flag, on...
The dreary weather was forgotten at the sight of the Allude Men Collection with its vivid blue and red tones as well as a light gray. Très Alpine for Andrea Karg and her team meant a modern interpretation of the winter sport jet set of the 1960s and 1970s, when Hollywood stars and Europe’s high society turned ice and snow to glamorous coolness between chalet and ski lift. Finely ribbed cashmere sweaters and jogging bottoms with silver appliqués on the pockets for...
